Introducing Liferay Foundation

When I was thinking about joining Liferay back in 2005, I remember Brian Chan sharing his vision for the company. Instead of trying to create great software to make a lot of money for ourselves, let's use it as a means to help other people, especially the poor and needy. Great idea, eh? Fast forward to today, and we finally have an opportunity to do just that.

I want to formally introduce Liferay Foundation. It is the nonprofit arm of Liferay, Inc., and at its core is the original vision of helping those who can't help themselves. We believe that Return On Giving (ROG) is much greater than Return On Investment (ROI). Simply put, the intangible reward of giving to those in need far outweighs the financial reward of investing in ourselves. We are humbled by how blessed we are to be where we are today -- both as a company and as individuals -- and we feel compelled to give back.

I have the privilege of being a part of this movement as the Director of the Foundation. As the board and I do our best to lay the foundation for the Foundation, we're excited for what's in store. We have a lot to do and a lot to learn, but we're committed to living out our vision the best we can. Stay tuned for more updates, and we hope to have liferayfoundation.org up soon. This mindset is one of the reasons that I was drawn to Liferay all those years ago. And the reinforcement of this mindset via the Foundation makes me proud to be a Liferay employee.
