New feature in Liferay 6.0 - Hindi language translation

One of the good news for Liferay users from India is the addition of Hindi translation in upcoming Liferay 6.0. With this addition, Liferay is now translated in total 32 languages.

Althought, Lifeay can be extended to add support for any language, there were few request to see out of the box translation for Indian languages. Since Hindi is the most popualr language in India, we started with Hindi.

This translation is still a work in progress and will be improved before final release of Liferay 6.0.

Here is the hindi translation team.

There are 22 National Languages have been recognized by the Constitution of India.Community expecting more 21!!

Summary of task :
1) Specifying locale in portal-ext.properties
2) Obtaining language_hi_IN.properties and language_hi_IN.properties.native from
http://svn.liferay.com/browse/portal/trunk/portal-impl/src/content/Language_hi_IN.properties?r=49695&@annm=none

Placing them in to D:\ProjectExt\Liferay\tomcat\tomcat-5.5.27\webapps\ROOT\WEB-INF\lib\portal-impl.jar\content\

3) Restart tomcat /Liferay

Result : Language portlet shows Hindi as option in language list.

Problem : Creating a static pages in Hindi language will get converted into question mark (???????) after restarting tomcat/liferay.
So unable to show Hindi contents in Hindi language.

also i want to know how to download liferay from trunk.

I Got all portlets titles , menus and static web contents in Hindi after restarting tomcat/liferay with Mysql 5.0.

Hi Ranjit

There were talks earlier in this forum itself to have Gujarati language in Liferay. However it wasnt achieved. But if you want to do it you can check how Hindi is done and start something looking at it. If you need any help let me know and I can help you out and I have been part of Hindi Translation.
