I don't want to assign every new user this role, only users who are in a particular group.

E.g. in Liferay 6 i could create a special regular IT-Role for our IT and a group called IT. Then i went to the role and did assign the IT-Group to it. Now whenever someone in the it-group logs in, she/he will automatically have the IT-Role permissions, and not every new user.

I've been missing this for a while, sorry. And it also took me a while to find it: From Control Panel / Users / Roles: Choose "User Groups" from the select field below "Assignees". Then the "Add" Button and add a UserGroup to that role. I've looked for this feature on the UserGroup side, but couldn't find it there. I guess you did so as well.
