What are your Top 5 events for 2015?

Hi Guys!

This is Shannon from the Liferay Events team. As I make plans for 2015’s events and schedule, I’d like to learn what non-Liferay events get the community most excited. As a valued member of our community, what events do YOU enjoy most? How do you spend your time outside of Liferay events? At hackathons? Comic conventions? Java Open Source gatherings? Pro Sports competitions? Tell us what YOUR top five events in 2015 will be and why!

Example:
1) Comic-Con - I love cosplay!
2) JavaOne - Finding Duke is one of my favorite pastimes and they have the best networking.
3) Devoxx - It's all about the dev.life and their hackathon is ace.
4) FISL - I live and love open source. all day. every day.
5) Clippers vs. Lakers games - because I love watching the Clippers beat the Lakers!!!

I don't know how widespread they are, but I've been attending Tech After Five here in Charleston, SC. http://www.techafterfive.com/

It's less about meeting w/ just Liferay folks and more about networking at a local level. At the end of the day, if you suffer some sort of work disruption or need some sort of quick fix, having the local connections can make all the difference.

Plus you get a "free" drink emoticon

1. 626 Night Market
2. Patchwork Show (arts fair)

I really enjoy attending the following events:

-LA Food & Wine Festival - love wine tasting and trying new foods
-Dodgers games - I'm a Dodger fan
-Unique LA - love being able to buy unique products from small businesses that are made in the US
-Ronald McDonald House Charities Walk for Kids 5K - support RMHCSC initiatives

1) Foosball on a Tornado T3000 Table.
2) After-parties which afford smaller-group quiet conversation with standing room to move - not too quiet where all conversations are heard and not too loud and crowded - no surprising noises like sudden laughing for no good reason.
3) A comfortable shoes competition for 2nd place given Olaf wins first.
4) Speed Consulting on one side of the room and on the other a table of desktops to 'show off your stuff' (mobiles welcome)
5) A swag-welcome room with hacky sacks and inflated earth globes.

Wow, thanks for all the great posts! I will definitely consider some of these great ideas to implement into future events. And I will research the events mentioned to get a feel for each one's unique qualities.

Any more specific events throughout the world to watch out for?

JFokus - the best developer conference in northern Europe?
Unfortunately, Liferay will not be represented there...

Best regards,
Andreas

I agree with Andreas on this, JFokus really is THE place to be for java-related technologies. I've seen Olaf there once but regretfully he didn't have session nor a booth. I believe the community in northern Europe would benefit greatly if Liferay showed their colours in this event since there usually are two strong competitors present. (SiteVision is probably the most prominent)

So, please, get in touch with Mathias Karlsson and we'll see you there! emoticon
(Vaadin usually show up in large amounts, piggy back on them!)

Hi Marcus,
we are in contact with Mathias, however unfortunately participation didn't work out this year either. I hope that this feedback gives some support for future engagement.
Too bad, I'll not be able to come again this year - conflicting appointments, but I believe that somebody from Liferay will be there. (Sampsa?) Thanks for suggesting this event. I totally agree and I've been blown away when I was there, I believe it was in 2013.
Count this as another supporting voice for JFokus.

3) A comfortable shoes competition for 2nd place given Olaf wins first.

I totally missed this earlier... I'm happy to host such a competition any time. Just let me know when & where. emoticon

For the uninitiated: Jack is talking about my favorites.

There's definitely no competing with Olaf on outfits...
