New Features Summary

Online Editing: Liferay 7.2 now allows for editing files online via Google Docs™, Google Sheets™, and Google Slides™.  The actual file remains located in Documents and Media and the tools are only used to edit the files.   Documents and Media now allows users to directly share documents with one another making collaboration easier than ever before.

Bulk editing and auto tagging: Liferay Portal 7.2 also includes new auto tagging and bulk editing features to ease managing a large number of assets.

Personalization and Segmentation: The feature formally known as Audience Targeting makes a triumphant return to Liferay Portal CE with the release of 7.2 as a core feature.   Personalization integrates with the revamped Content Pages which allows for a page editor to dynamically see changes targeted to different groups of people by different experiences.  The Content Sets can be defined and used through sites via the Asset Publisher.  Similar to content pages, content sets can be filtered based on the audience viewing the content.

Personal Data Erasure: This feature was first introduced in Liferay 7.1 and has been improved by replacing the wizard with an intuitive dashboard that makes managing personal data much simpler.  Personal data is now organized by hierarchy based on the asset type.  Admins can also see the data that will be auto-anonymized before running the process.

Redesigned Instance Settings: The UI for Instance Settings have received a complete overhaul and is now in line with the design used in System Settings making it much easier to find configuration settings.   Configuration options have been logically grouped together and organized between system settings and instance settings making it easier than ever before to configure the system.

Improved Site Building:  Liferay Portal 7.1 introduced many new concepts which allowed for non-technical users to easily create content within their sites.  Liferay Portal 7.2 improves upon these features in almost every way.  Content Pages now includes a new visual page layout that simplifies creating new pages using pre-built and custom fragments.  The page is now edited within context of the site giving the editor a more realistic preview of the final page.  The Fragment editor now has a command-line toolkit that makes it easy for fragment developers to use the tool of their choice.

Liferay JS Themes Toolkit:  For Liferay 7.2 the Liferay Themes SDK has been rebranded Liferay JS Themes Toolkit.  There are currently two versions of the toolkit:  v8.x of the Liferay Theme JS Toolkit is for developing themes for 7.1 and below and v9.x of the Liferay Theme JS Toolkit will be for developing themes for 7.2 and above.

Liferay JS Generator: Allows developers to create frontend UIs using the technology they are familiar with.  Standard portlets require Java knowledge and can make it harder for devs to get up and running quickly.  With the Liferay JS Generator they can use standard Javascript libraries to create fully functional widgets that are properly integrated with Liferay Portal without Java knowledge.
