Adapt all handy Blogs WYSIWYG Editor features to Web Contents
(whether by restoring the ability to switch to AlloyEditor, or
introducing enhancements to the existing CKEditor)
Sum up
Handy features of Blogs editor that would greatly benefit in Web
Contents edition:
- better copy-paste of images (with base64 to attached-file automatic upload and conversion)
- better copy-paste from Word support
- ability to replace upper toolbar with contextual toolbars: add content, text/image/table selection.
Context:
CMS is a core feature of Liferay, so ehnancements to WYSIWYG should be top-prioritized (imo).
With the disappearance of the ability to switch to alloyeditor since
7.4 (formerly possible by changing a property in
portal-ext.properties), the wysiwyg editor lost quite a few
capabilities that were very useful. Forementioned 3
of them, but the list could be amended...
The new editor (based on
ckeditor) would accept additional developments to improve its
capabilities, but the upper toolbar then becomes a limitation; already
occupying some space at the top, with some additional buttons and
selectors it would very soon become difficult to read, and eat a
respectful portion of the editable area.
Contextual menus/toolbars are not only convenient or elegant: they
take no space, and leave free room for additional buttons that can be
considered as many future enhancement capabilities.
... and
copy/paste support is a reality we have to cope with (no matter how
many times you tell people they are bad practice or not... habits are
installed and they do not change.)
