On this Liferay Portal website page it says that "Resources Importer is deprecated as of Liferay Portal CE 7.1":

So I want to know what is the new suggested alternative.
There's no suggested alternative
yet, and I don't understand why it's already deprecated nevertheless. However, as I understand 7.2 will come with a new technique which is simpler & more powerful. The name constantly escapes me, but for 7.1, Resource Importer is the way to go. Just don't over-invest, because in 7.2 you'll want to use the new stuff.
Spoiler-alert: Its implementation has been built in the Commerce project, where they needed to create a lot of content for the demo site. But it wasn't fleshed out enough in 7.1 to call it a final version. Lots of changes to be expected between what Commerce used back then and what's expected in 7.2.
And as 7.2 is still about the future: Take this information with a grain of salt. ;)
