Binding attachments to options

I am trying to bind attachment files to certain product options. For different options, I want to provide the fitting datasheet and 3D model as a downloadable attachment, but the feature when I edit a product with Media > Attachment > Options doesn't work. Will there be a fix for this soon or is there another option for this?
You can try with custom field of order items
