Bundles and other download options

If you are used to binary releases, you can find the Liferay Portal 7.4 GA36 and Liferay Commerce 4.0 GA36 release on the download page.  If you need additional files (for example, the source code, or dependency libraries), visit the release page.

Dependency Management

For development using the Liferay Platform, update Liferay Workspace to use the  latest dependencies, by adding the following line to the build.gradle file:

dependencies {
	compileOnly group: "com.liferay.portal", name: "release.portal.api"

All portal dependencies are now defined with a single declaration. When using an IDE such as Eclipse or IntelliJ all apis are immediately available in autocomplete for immediate use.

By setting a product info key property it will be possible to update all dependencies to a new version by updating the liferay.workspace.product property in the liferay workspace projects file:

liferay.workspace.product = portal-7.4-ga36

When using an IDE such as Eclipse or IntelliJ all apis are immediately available in autocomplete for immediate use.

Experience Management

Trigger auto-tagging process on content update

Now it is possible for content managers to trigger the auto-tagging process when updating a content (blog entry, web content, document) so new tags will be added once published. This will help find and discoverability of your assets when the content is substantially edited, like changing an image with another one.

Users will find a new check box if auto-tagging is configured while editing a content:

Additionally, admins can set the default value of this feature from instance settings, so user do not have to select the option on every update:

Temporarily view a page from a different publication

This feature allows users to directly share a publication change via an URL. Anyone who has the URL still requires permission to the publication to view the changes. Changes and navigation in this mode are also not supported.

Search Bar Suggestions: Search as you Type

Liferay Portal 7.4 CE GA36/DXP 7.4 Update 36 introduces Search Suggestions, a new feature of the Search Bar widget. With suggestions enabled, users begin typing in the search bar and have preliminary results returned. This feature introduces search-as-you-type functionality to Liferay.

  1. Enabled by default, the feature can be toggled on and off in the Search Bar widget configuration.

  2. [DXP 7.4 Only] Use Search Blueprints to tailor the suggestions search query (see details below this page).

  3. Other configuration options include setting the number of characters typed before results are displayed, and configuring the suggestions contributor used to search the index.

  4. Configure suggestions in the Control Panel: there's a Service Access Policy, a headless endpoint configuration, and System/Instance Settings entries. With these you can exert control over suggestions at various scopes.

Learn more in the Search Bar Suggestions documentation.
