We identified this as a potential area to improve, recorded breifly

originally. Now that it came up again, I can create a new ticket so it
can be revisited when planning future milestones.

As this has always been the behavior since the modular search widgets
were introduced in 7.1, there may be different, equally valid expectations.

Also, according to my quick test, all off the OOTB facets behave
consistently in regards to this, though this can be also double-checked.

Regards,

This case was found as a expected behaviour and not as bug. Therefore
reported here to get unified user experience when using facets.

We found out that in some search + facet use cases the previous facet
selection is not visible after a new search and this makes situation
hard to understand for the user. Affected facets in our testing are:

- Type
- Site
- Tag
- User
- Folder
- Specification

Working facets:
- Last modified
- Category
- Custom

Steps are otherwise the same for all facets except that the test data
must be created for each case separately. For us, the type facet and
specification facet are the critical ones.

Steps for type facet:
- Edit search page (Site builder ->
 Pages -> Search)
- Add Type facet on the page
- Search for
 * if you don't see any results on the page
- Click/select Page
 from type facet
- Search for star from the either one of the
 search bars

Expected:
- User sees previous page selection with count 0

Actual:
- User sees only clear link and Document with count 1 in
 type facet

If you setup data for last modified, category or custom facet, the
previous selection is visible with count 0, which is good. For
example, edit stars.png, search for *, select Past hour from last
modified facet (add it on the page if needed) and search for earth
(this requires that your data on the Liferay is older than 1h).

Tested on 2023.Q4.0
