Really? How often have you reached out to Spring support for an issue? While official support might end in 2020, 4.3 will go on for all of those cases where they are dropping support (Jasper, Portlet, etc).

I think you're worrying about all the wrong things. Build your portlet now. Build in what you know or what you have. Get your project out the door so folks can benefit from it today.

We are planning to use KAFKA and Spring Cloud in future not now .

if Spring stop supporting the Portlet API and as per the link (https://jira.spring.io/browse/SPR-14129) it say "Spring Framework 4.3.x will remain supported until 2020, ". Will I start Custom development with other framework ?

There is little reason to go to Spring 5, especially with the discontinued support for the portlet spec.

Liferay 7.1 drops support for Velocity also, there's a lot of folks doing that since Velocity is showing it's age. Not that project maturity and stability is a bad thing in general, but it is in software.

Why are you wanting Spring 5? Is it because there's some key thing in there that you need to take advantage of, or is it just to say you're using the latest version of Library X?

Spring 5 discontinues support for Portlet, Velocity, JasperReports, XMLBeans, JDO, Guava , etc. Did any one successfully developed the custom Portlet using Spring5 with Liferay 7 ?

Please share the details.
