Yes, this was a design choice as we the majority of users alredy know what account they're signed in as. This may change (perhaps a tooltip, or user's name as a disabled menu item) based on feedback and use cases.
Then the UX has been downgraded, the move of menus has failed to bring over a label. Of course people know what their name is, but it would be very nice for the user menu to be firendly and say "Good morning Ray" ... wouldn't it though?
