The article doesn't say which version of Liferay DXP this is available from.

Based on LPD-32689 it appears to be included in 7.4.13 DXP U126, it should be clearer to end users. For example someone on an earlier U version will not know that this feature isn't available for use.

I'm a big proponent of sticky sessions, and often I see that replicated sessions don't solve the problem that they're being introduced for (rather, they pull down performance).

That being said, Thank you for pointing out the missing flag, I'll point the docs team to it - we'll see if they have an opinion on it.
