Hi all.

As a former developer for Liferay Portal 6.2, I'm nowadays interested in learning to develop for Liferay 7.4. The problem is that despite of the fact I find a lot of information related to Liferay 7.x development, I find all that information somewhat unorganized; as a consecuence, I don't see a clear path about how to get started with that all.

First of all, I'd like to ask whether development for Liferay 7.4 is similar (or equal) to development for Liferay 7.3/7.2/7.1. I'm asking this as I find a lot of information intended for Liferay 7.3, 7.2 or 7.1, but I don't really know if all that info is actually valid for Liferay 7.4 development.

And finally, and having decided to start with the task of creating a new Liferay theme (mainly influenced by my background on Liferay 6.2 targeted development), I'd really appreciate if someone could provide me with some must-read docs/tutorials where I can learn how to tackle that task.

I think there are 2 reasons why your post remains unanswered.

 

  1. Your title and the first question are not concrete, so they are hard to answer.
  2. Your specific question about creating a theme should be in a separate post titled something like "Theme creation, 6.2 versus 7.4"

I think I can answer at least this part:

First of all, I'd like to ask whether development for Liferay 7.4 is similar (or equal) to development for Liferay 7.3/7.2/7.1. The information on Liferay Learn is meant to be valid for 7.2+, so yes, it includes 7.4. I can't guarantee everything is updated for 7.4, but much of it certainly is. We'd love to hear if some needed bit of documentation doesn't work on 7.4 in the way presented on Liferay Learn.

I've been going thru some course from Learn Liferay

 

SO far I did course 7.2 and it's not bad, but for 7.4 it's not complete :-(
