I have just setup Liferay Community Edition Portal 7.4.3.15 CE GA15 .

I am trying to follow the instructions mentioned at https://learn.liferay.com/dxp/latest/en/getting-started/creating-your-first-site.html

The instruction mentions in step 3 as "Select the Community Site Template. The Site Template you choose determines what default pages and applications the new Site is populated with."

 

But when I try to add a site, I do not see any step to select template in this version.

When I click on + icon, following page appears.

I am wondering, is the documentation is required to be updated or am I doing something wrong. In earlier versions of liferay, I believe the option to choose type of site used to be there.

Likely the documentation is out dated and they removed that site template. It feels like the product is moving away from community or people based portal use cases and more towards products. (IMHO there are better commerce platforms) but as a people based portal we are seeing less and less commitment to the social and colaboration features. From my recollection the community site template contained a lot of really nice features that Liferay have taken away over a number of years. That could be why a community site is missing. If you look at the hitsory of a community site Liferay back then was almost trying to be a Facebook style portal because that was the future back then, much of that feature set has now gone. Now it's trying to be a Commerce and low code platform because that's what's in right now.

I can't see how they can keep the documenation updated under the current 7.4 release cycle.

The best thing to do once you get a feel for the types of sites you want to create (if you're a multisite install) is to start with the blank site and figure out what kinds of pages and stuff on the pages you need.
 

Another question, how do we remove the commerce site templates? It would also be very helpful to be able to edit "Blank" to at least add a homepage into it and rename it to something else, like "Standard Site"

All I see is no site templates
