Hello together,

is it possible to print a short message to the log with some information like emailaddress and subject if there was an email sent from liferay?

I am using Liferay 7.1 CE.I have tried to set the loglevel of com.liferay.petra.mail.MailEngine to debug

> log4j.logger.com.liferay.petra.mail.MailEngine=DEBUG 

Now I can see those emails but the debug level prints to much debug information for simple logging if there was an email sent or not.

If I dont set the log4j.logger.com.liferay.petra.mail.MailEngine loglevel to debug there is nothing printed or notified that the email was sent from liferay.

That's a quite interesting question.
We are atm considering Liferay 7.1.3 GA4 CE as a portal solution.

Have you maybe already found a solution yourself?

Consider going with the latest version, as CE updates typically end with the next major version out (notable exception was the recent security patch). Right now 7.3 GA2 is already out, so even 7.2 is supposed to stay without future updates.
From a development side, differences between 7.1 and 7.3 are not too big, both follow the same architecture, and feature-wise you'll only see more features.
With regards to the problem discussed in this thread: I'd look at the source code to see if there is any possibility with the log level, or if it needs some additional code to output that log (or a mail proxy that provides this logging)

That should work.
But I am not sure, where you set the loglevel. Could you try to set the loglevel through the Server Administration? If it works there, there is probably something wrong with your META-INF/portal-log4j-ext.xml file
