RE: JSPs working in Java 11.0.5 end up with NPE in Java 11.0.6
Java 11.0.6 seems to handle something differently and now I am getting NPE when rendering page which works fine in 11.0.5. Do you happen know what could be the cause and how to fix this? It affects practically all my modules. In meantime I downgraded Java back to version 11.0.5.

Just had the same issue while upgrading to Fix Pack 4, Ubuntu had conveniently upgraded Java as a security fix in the background so when I went to start up Liferay again it was running Java 11.0.6. Eventually managed to find the 11.0.5 packages and download them manually from Launchpad, eg. https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/bionic/amd64/openjdk-11-jdk/11.0.5+10-0ubuntu1.1~18.04 .

If this is being worked on (instead of just pointing to the Java version where it's fixed), I'd love to see the error reporting enhanced. All of the exception messages above mention "a JSP" at most, while some classes on the path clearly have a better view of which JSP is currently being worked on - e.g.

The root cause is incorrect stripping leading slashes (LR code) in paths when traversing the JAR file content. Slashes are omitted in 11.0.6, but LR counts with them.

I agree with Olaf about the JSP name- in lots of cases when the JSP won't compile or comes up with an error, it can be tricky to track down which file caused an error.

I've filed LPS-108709 for improved error reporting. Vote for it or comment if you find better places to add such information.
