RE: 7.2 B2 - Non-Admin User Has Lost "My Site" Functionality

User has lost functionality in move of product menu to user icon menu. "My Site" and "My Sites" are different things and "My Site" has been lost, user can no longer get to their own documents and media, pages etc etc. A portal admin for example can access my personal site ... but as a non admin I cannot unless I become portal admin. As a "registered user" there is now functionality I had that I no longer have access to!

By default, users do not have admin permissions over their personal site. Try granting your test user the "Power User" role. Once you navigate to "My Dashboard" or "My Profile", you'll be able to access the personal site admin portlets.

In that situation then what is the point of My Site? User access can't be elivated like that to turn on functionality that is already there. We couldn't for example make 250,000 people portal admins. Is that what you mean or would they be site admins of their own sites?

It would be awesome if users could have at least their own personal storage area in Documents and Media.

The "Power User" role only grants admin access over the user's own personal site. This has been the default behavior as far back as 6.0 days.

Can I explain this again in a different way?

I have logged in as an admin ... I don't see "My Site" in the drop down menu on the right.

"My Site" was not available in the Site selector in 7.0 either. "My Site" always required going to either "My Dashboard" or "My Profile" (the private and public pages for "My Site"). Granted, this pattern and nomenclature is confusing (what is "My Site" vs "My Dashboard" vs "My Profile"?) and needs improvement in 7.3. However, the behavior is the same from 7.0 onward.

Hey Lee,

As Dennis explains, the "My Site" that you show in the product menu is just the name of the section that is related to the current "site".

This is definitely confusing, specially when we had the links to "My Dashboard" and "My Profile" (which are just two parts of "My Site") in the very same left menu. We definitely need to continue working to make things more clear out of the box. For now, I think most installations making use of "My Site" are relying on customizations to make it more clear for their specific use cases and users.

My Site and My Sites has always been confusing LOL.

However when clicking "My Sites" the modal opens to "Recent" which could be more useful, in that case "Recent Sites" would be better.
