Liferay Screens Beta for Android

Update: Hey, we released version 1.0, check it out here!

Hi, community! I'm Javier Gamarra, a new senior Android developer working at Madrid's office!

I am glad to announce that the Beta 3 of Liferay Screens is ready, bringing a lot of goodies to the iOS version and...finally, Android support! :)

We know many of you were asking for an Android version and here it is! Thanks to the work of Silvio and Jose Manuel, we can announce an Android version of Liferay Screens supporting all the main screenlets: DDL form, asset list, login, sign up, user portrait... we have listened to your feedback and we are ready to hear your new suggestions and contributions to improve even more! :D

Our iOS version has grown with a new screenlet, user portrait, that shows the avatar of a user. This new Screenlet comes with two different layouts and support for image filters. But the biggest change is support for auto layout, Liferay Screens looks great in tablets and different form factors now!

For those who still don’t know what we are talking about, Liferay Screens is our new product to speed up development of Android & iOS apps using Liferay Portal as a back-end. It is a library of pre-built visual components (we call them screenlets) that makes creating new apps a breeze. You simply have to include the screenlet in your xib or your layout and it takes care of all the code to connect to your instance of Liferay Portal, validate inputs or show the results in the screen. Liferay Screens comes with custom themes that change all your app's appearance, and now, with Android, a Material theme bringing Material goodness to your app.

You can see in github a full report of the improvements for the iOS version, all the new features for Android and the documentation and installation instructions.

I'm excited to be part of Liferay's family and eagerly expecting your feedback, requests and bug reports! so don't be shy and help us make Liferay Screens awesome! :)
