Devcon 2019

Registration is open

Same procedure as last year: Devcon 2019 is coming closer, and with it everybody is working behind the scenes to make it even more awesome than last year. You don't need to take my word for it: Take Andrew's.

In 2019 we are back in the center of Germany, in the beautiful town of Mainz, which is very close to Frankfurt, thus really easy to reach from everywhere.

Just like every year since 2013, the event is opened by the annual 1-day Unconference, in which you'll have face-to-face meeting opportunity with other people from the global Liferay community, and corner them until your questions are answered, your suggestions heard, your ideas spread.

Despite all of our past efforts, the Unconference is not unlimited in size (but we managed to grow it again) and always sold out in the past years. Don't come to me crying if you don't get a ticket: You've been warned and can register early. You'll also profit from the Early Bird price until mid-September.

Right after the Unconference, we'll have our free Community Event, in a yet undisclosed secret lair.

Followed by the 2-day Devcon full format conference with workshops, presentations, keynotes, party and - of course - unquestionably the best coffee you can have at a conference (ask past attendees). Check the conference's home page for updates to the agenda, and book your trip early to beat the rush and to make sure you are in.

Stay tuned and monitor https://liferay.com/devcon for seeing the agenda unfold if you need more convincing. It's currently being built and refined.

There are good discounts for DXP customers, Alumni or Groups of 3 and more. Speaking of groups: It makes sense to come with more than 1 person, to share the duty of notes and of attending every session.

I'm going to be there!  I look forward to catching up with folks I've met at past DEVCONs and also look forward to making new friends and acquaintances at the the upcoming DEVCON.

And for those that don't know any better, the Unconference ticket is the one to have! Olaf tends to be a little honest since he hosts the Unconference, but it is by far some of the best open discussions across a range of topics that attendees want to have w/ Liferay.

I'll see you all there!

After many an unconference, the theme gets repetitive. But it's still a great place to be, and a wonderful place to catch up with all the people you only see once a year.

However, from experience, people new to Liferay seem to often not go to the unconference (maybe because they feel they lack experience?). But if your new to Liferay, the unconference day is the most important day. You will learn so much, it will blow your mind.

(And yes, I have off course secured my tickets to both the conference and unconference a while back. Looking forward to seeing all of you wonderful people again in a few months).

Hey Brendan, hit me up on slack, I'd like to hear more about what you think about the theme...

I guess what I wrote wasn't as clear as what I thought when writing it. What I meant by "theme" was simply that after being at all the unconferences except one, you have "heard it all" and the interesting topics are not new to you. You loose the "wow, I'm learning so much" feeling. Nothing wrong with that at all, it's just a feature of working with Liferay for a long time. And I wouldn't have it changed at all, since, like I said, the unconference format is so valuable to new members of the community.

Oh, so it's your fault...  ;-)

Seriously, though, the Unconference is about what attendees bring to the table. If the content is repeated from previous years, it's because it is what attendees ask for.

If there are new things to discuss, new topics to cover or new areas to explore, please bring them with you and hang up cards for them. No session is too big or too small, so cards will not get turned away...

Got my ticket, including unconference  :) Will the unconference, community event and main conference all be in the same location or neighborhood?

Not sure if they're technically the same, but they're close and belong together. At least they'll be next door to each other, if there isn't an overlap (The Unconference has less space than we have on the following days) Looking forward to seeing you in Mainz

Excellent! That makes  it easy to find a good location for accommodation :)

Thanks, Olaf, see you in Mainz!

I've visited the venues yesterday. They're in the same business park, approximately 2 walking minutes away from each other. Nothing that'll make you change any hotel choices as there's no hotel in between the two which would be closer to one or the other.
