Virtual Instance in Liferay 7.4

In this Blog Today we will discuss about the Virtual Instance in Liferay 7.4 version.

What is virtual Instance: - As we know that when we install a new Liferay DXP setup so it gives us some configuration like users, sites, organizations, roles and instance setting etc.  If you want to create a new installation like this and want to run Application on same server and database, but separate data and configuration then you will need to create a virtual instance.

Virtual instances have unique domain names but share a server and database. Each virtual instance can have independent data and configurations.

 How to configure new Virtual Instance: - There are some steps to configure new virtual instance.

Step 1: Configure your domain name into network host file go to this location .

C: → Windows → System32 → Drives → etc → hosts file.

Give your IP address and domain name in hosts file.

Step 2: Go to Control Panel -> System -> Virtual Instance -> Add button (+) -> Add Instance.

Step 3:  Fill Add Instance form for new domain.

Web ID: Specify the instance ID. Using the domain name is a common convention.

Virtual Host: Set the domain name you configured in your network. When people use the domain name, they are directed automatically to this instance. Virtual Host field name should be same as the your configured name in hosts file.

Mail Domain: Enter the mail host’s domain name for the Virtual Instance. Email notifications are sent from the instance using this domain.

Max Users: Set the maximum number of user accounts the Virtual Instance supports. Enter 0 to support unlimited users.

Active: Set the Virtual Instance to active or inactive. Inactive Virtual Instances aren’t accessible to anyone, even the administrator.

 

Here I have give web ID l4liferay.com you can give any web Id, and fill other Fields then click on Add button.

Step 4: Finally you can access your new virtual instance. You have to type your host-name: port- no like (l4liferay.com:8080). On your browser then it will give you sign in option. Then you have to sign in by Administrator user . For example - username (test@l4liferay.com) and password - test. Here you will get all functionality and predefined features like Liferay DXP have.
