Our documentation team is working hard to create all of the docs for 7.2.  We are in the midst of creating a new site to replace LDN that will feature an updated format for the documentation.   In the meantime we have created a temporary site for the 7.2 docs in order to share what we have ready.

New Features Summary

Web Experience

Liferay 7.1 introduced significant changes to Web Experience in how content creators added new content to their sites.  Liferay 7.2 continues on with the great work that was started in 7.1 and vastly improves the overall experience. For more information please see Web Experience new features in Liferay Portal 7.2 b1 by David Gómez for more info.

Personalization and Segmentation

With Liferay 7.2 the feature that was formerly known as Audience Targeting is now a part of the core product.  Not only that, it has undergone many changes and is vastly improved over the older versions. For more information please see Creating Personalized Experiences with Liferay 7.2 by Eduardo Garcia for more details.

User & System Management

Personal Data Erasure

  • The Personal Data Erasure feature introduced in 7.1 has been improved with the following capabilities:

    • The five-step wizard has been replaced by a dashboard where administrators can scope a user’s personal data by personal sites, regular sites, and instance

    • Personal data can now be organized and displayed by hierarchy for assets like folders/files and forum categories/threads/messages. This provides context of where personal data resides and simplifies bulk deletion and anonymization. Note: currently, only the Documents and Media and Message Boards applications have been updated to support the new hierarchical APIs.

    • Administrators can now see which applications contain data that will auto-anonymize data.

  • Instructions: Administrators can experiment with the improved Personal Data Erasure feature by:

    • Log in as a user and create content like Blogs, Documents and Media, Wiki, etc.

    • Log in as an administrator (cannot be the same user) and navigate to: Control Panel -> Users -> Users and Organizations

    • Expand the kebab menu for the first user and select “Delete Personal Data”

Liferay Theme JS Toolkit

For Liferay 7.2 the Liferay Themes SDK has been rebranded Liferay JS Themes Toolkit.  There are currently two versions of the toolkit:

  • v8.x of the Liferay Theme JS Toolkit (e.g. the theme generator, gulp tasks, etc.) will be for developing themes for 7.1 and below

  • v9.x of the Liferay Theme JS Toolkit will be for developing themes for 7.2 and above.

Info will be included in LDN soon, but for the time being please see the repos README.

Pure Javascript Projects

Pure JS portlets were made available in Liferay 7.1 but have notable new features for Liferay 7.2:

  • Localization

  • Configuration settings (system settings and portlet instance settings)

As with the Liferay Themes JS Toolkit, the documentation for Pure Javascript projects isn’t published to LDN as of yet.  You find the current info in the liferay-npm-build-tools repos Wiki.

Liferay 7.2 Alpha 1 introduced many exciting new features for collaboration and were covered in the release announcement.
