We’d like to dig deeper into one of the features delivered for the 7.3 GA1 release. Liferay now supports Open Graph meta tags out of the box and provides previews both for Open Graph and search engines in a clean and easy way.
As you can see in the video, by including support for Open Graph out of the box, page creators are empowered to customize and tailor the message they will use on social media, which in some cases, might be the same message they want to use for search engines, but in some others, those messages can slightly differ.
Additionally, they can now get a real-time preview of how their pages will appear both on search engines and on social media networks that support the Open Graph protocol (such as Facebook, Twitter, etc).
BUSINESS SCENARIO
For example, the job of the Marketing department is far from finished when the website for the Devcon is published. After the publication, their job only kind of begins and they have to make it visible to the target audience so that our customers and community hear about it, buy the tickets and finally join us at that awesome event.
A big part of that visibility will come from how well they can do their job on social platforms such as Linkedin, Twitter or Facebook. As they want to do this in an attractive way, they do not want to just paste the URL to the page they want to promote, but for the content to integrate smoothly in the feeds of those platforms.
NEXT STEPS
This feature is just one of the many we plan to introduce for 7.3 in order to help make websites that are better prepared to be optimized for Search engines and social media.
Try it, and please send us any feedback that can help to improve the product.
