Liferay on Mac OS X

Most engineers in Liferay, Inc. happen to be Windows users.  Me, I've got one of the few MacBook Pro's in the company.



Ever since I joined the company in May 2005, I have used Macs to do my development.  In fact, I have been using Macs since 1994.  Sure, I am in the minority, but I do make a ruckus when things break on Safari.  Anyhow, in honor of the growing number of Mac advocates out there, I have started writing a Wiki article that covers the basics of getting Liferay running on your own Mac.  :)

P. S. If you were curious, Liferay compilation time is shorter on the Mac OS X than that other OS. :P

I agree. I love my Macs as well but I wish we could get a coherent response from Apple on their jvm direction going forward. I have Leopard now and still no sign of Java 6. emoticon

I forgot to ask, do you use the boot camp feature on your Mac? If so, how is it?

Thanks for the comments. Steen, no I have not used Boot Camp. I don't like the idea of having to restart my computer in order to use one or two software programs. For the most part, I can do everything on my Mac. The only thing is IE, but I have been able to use <a href="http://www.tatanka.com.br/ies4linux/page/Does_IEs_4_Linux_Work_with_Mac_OSX">IEs4Linux</a> to solve that problem.

Steven,

Bootcamp works very well. It is no different than running Windows on any ordinary pc. Apple provides all the Windows drivers you need on the bootcamp cd that you burn. The only thing I have found to be a bit difficult to get used to is using the single button in Windows, assuming you are using a Macbook(Pro).

I have not tried it but if anyone uses windows via boot camp, they can also use parallels to run the same windows thus no need to restart the mac.
