Wahoo, 7.0 Beta 1 is out.
Why is this important to you, you might ask?
So here's the thing - Liferay typically has no idea what you've been doing to it. They don't know about your hooks, your EXT plugins, your portlets, etc.
That means they may not have tested some of the things you use and how you've done them. You may have expectations that some legacy thing still works or some new thing won't impact what you've done, etc.
So it really is up to you to test Liferay 7 to make sure your stuff works now, right this second, as soon as possible, ...
Why is this so important to do in a beta? Why not wait until the GA release and try it then?
For the simple reason that there will be a period of time after GA1 is released before GA2 comes out. If you wait for GA1 and find bug(s) that prevent your code from working, you may end up waiting for GA2 for the fix to get in.
If you test it now, if you report all of the bugs that you can find, when GA1 comes out you'll have a pretty good idea if your stuff is going to work under GA1 or not, and you'll certainly be ahead of those who wait for the GA to start their own testing.
Note I'm not saying do your production conversion to 7 tomorrow - leave production alone. Spin up a dev system and try building/deploying your stuff, try doing upgrades, etc. in a throw away environ. Remember you're just trying to get the bugs identified so they can get resolved before GA comes out...
Enjoy!
