Thanks for the reply Abhishek. I tried the alternate installation, but facing some issues.
I downloaded liferay-ide-eclipse-updatesite-1.0.1.zip from the alternate link and saved it to my c:\ drive.
Then in Eclipse, i went to Help->Install New Software. Then in Add Site dialog,i clicked the "Archive" button and browsed to the location of the downloaded zip file. Gave the Name "Liferay IDE" and pressed OK
But, i get the following error message :

I have checked the jar file its ok it should have (plugins/ features/ site.xml artifacts.xml
contents.xml )to be Archived Update Site and the bundle has all the components.
Now try the following steps
1> Extract the zip in a folder
2>Click on help >Install new software
3>Click on add
4>In pop up window give a name and make sure you click on Local button
4b>Browse to the extracted folder click ok
NB: make sure you dont have LR IDE plugin installed previously -- com.liferay.* plugins
